As the university begins to rethink the roles of amenities such as libraries and residential communities, other existing indoor and outdoor spaces must be reconsidered as well. There is a lack of spaces that students may use for purposes other than studying. This proposal includes a set of new micro environments within the existing sites of The Dell, the stormwater area located near the UVA hospital, and Newcomb Hall. These sites were chosen because their potential for use by students is not fully realized. The interventions within these spaces provide a contrast from activity conducted in other parts of the university, including studying and worrying about future prospects. The micro-environments are transformable so that students may use them in seclusion or with others.
